Healthier gums, looked after gently
Your gums are the foundation your teeth stand on. Sophia has a special interest in gum health and takes a calm, step-by-step approach, explaining everything, working at your pace, and helping the improvement last.
Why gums matter
Strong gums mean teeth that last.
Gum (periodontal) disease is one of the most common reasons adults lose teeth, and yet in its early stages it's often painless and easy to miss. Healthy gums hold your teeth firmly in place and keep harmful bacteria in check.
The good news: caught early, gum problems respond really well to gentle treatment and good day-to-day care. That's exactly the kind of preventive, honest dentistry Sophia believes in.
Warning signs to watch for
- Bleeding when you brush or floss
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Persistent bad breath or a bad taste
- Gums that look like they're receding
- Teeth that feel loose or have shifted
Noticing any of these? It's worth a gentle check, the earlier, the easier to treat.
How it works
A gentle three-step approach.
Clear, calm and always at your pace, here's what gum care with Sophia looks like.
Gum assessment
Sophia gently measures the health of your gums and the support around each tooth, explains what she finds in plain language, and agrees a plan with you before anything else happens.
Deep cleaning
A thorough clean below the gumline removes the hardened plaque and bacteria that brushing can't reach (scaling and root surface cleaning). Numbing is available, and we always go at your pace.
Ongoing gum maintenance
A simple, tailored routine and regular review visits, plus practical home advice, so your gums stay healthy and the improvement lasts.
Gum care questions
Good to know
Is gum treatment painful?
For most people it's comfortable. Sophia works gently and at your pace, and numbing is always available if you'd like it. Gums can feel a little tender for a day or two afterwards, which usually settles quickly.
How do I know if I have gum disease?
Common signs include bleeding when you brush or floss, red or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, or teeth that feel loose. Because it's often painless early on, a check-up is the surest way to know.
Can gum disease be reversed?
Early gum disease (gingivitis) can usually be reversed with professional cleaning and good home care. More advanced gum disease can be stabilised and managed to protect the support around your teeth, though some changes can't be undone, which is why acting early really helps.
How many appointments will I need?
It varies from person to person. Many people need an assessment followed by one or two cleaning visits, then regular maintenance reviews. Sophia will agree a clear plan with you after your assessment.
