Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered honestly

The questions people ask most before booking with Dr Sophia Malik in Iver, from nerves and prices to gum health and emergencies. If yours isn't here, just get in touch.

Visiting & booking

Do you accept nervous patients?

Yes, very much so. Many of the people Dr Sophia Malik sees haven't been to a dentist in years, and that's completely okay. You won't be rushed or judged. We start gently, agree a stop signal, and explain everything before it happens, moving entirely at your pace. Read more on the nervous patients page.

How do I book an appointment?

The easiest way is to message Sophia directly on WhatsApp, or send a quick enquiry through the contact form. She replies herself and will find a time that suits you, there's no call centre and no pressure.

Where is the practice located?

Dr Sophia Malik practises at Dental Wellbeing in Iver, Buckinghamshire, a calm setting that's easy to reach from Slough and the surrounding areas, with parking nearby and quick access from the M4, M25 and the Elizabeth line. See the dentist in Iver page.

What happens at a first visit if I'm nervous?

We keep it gentle. The first visit can simply be a chat and a look, nothing you haven't agreed to. Sophia explains everything before doing it, and you're always in control of when to pause or stop.

How much does a check-up cost?

A dental check-up is £45 and a hygiene appointment is £65. Other fees, such as white fillings from £105 and crowns from £500, are listed on the prices page, and every cost is explained and agreed with you before any treatment begins.

How often should I have a dental check-up?

For most people, every six to twelve months works well, but Sophia will recommend an interval that suits your own mouth. Some patients with healthy teeth and gums need to be seen less often, while others benefit from closer monitoring. More on dental check-ups.

Gum health & emergencies

How do I know if I have gum disease?

Common signs include bleeding when you brush or floss, red or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, gums that are receding, or teeth that feel loose. Gum disease is often painless in its early stages, so a check-up is the surest way to know. See gum & periodontal care.

Can gum disease be reversed?

Early gum disease (gingivitis) can usually be reversed with professional cleaning and good home care. More advanced gum disease can be stabilised and managed to protect the support around your teeth, though some changes can't be undone, which is why acting early matters.

Can I be seen the same day for a dental emergency?

Often, yes. Same-day emergency slots are usually available if you get in touch early in the day. Message on WhatsApp or send the contact form and we'll do our best to see you quickly. See emergency care.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Hold the tooth by the crown rather than the root. If it's an adult tooth, try to gently place it back in the socket and bite on a clean cloth. If you can't, keep it in milk and contact us straight away, as time really matters.

Treatments & family care

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, when it's carried out under the care of a dentist. Sophia checks your teeth and gums are healthy first, uses trays moulded to your teeth, and guides you so the result is even and kind to your gums. In the UK, tooth whitening should always be provided by a registered dental professional. More on teeth whitening.

At what age should my child first see a dentist?

It's a good idea for children to visit the dentist early, often once their first teeth appear, and certainly by their first birthday. Early visits are gentle and help children get used to the surroundings before any treatment is ever needed. See children's dentistry.

Do you see patients from Slough and surrounding areas?

Yes. Patients travel to Sophia from Slough, Langley, Datchet, Colnbrook, Burnham, Gerrards Cross and across the wider area. Many find the short trip to Iver well worth it for calmer, more personal care.

Do you offer honest treatment advice?

Always. Sophia's approach is built on ethical, honest dentistry: she'll explain your options plainly, never push treatment you don't need, and let you decide at your own pace. Keeping you healthy and comfortable comes first.
